A photo-etched set in 1:35 scale from the Chinese manufacturer Voyager Model aimed at two prominent external assemblies of the Sd.Kfz.251 half-track armored personnel carrier in its Ausf. D version: the side stowage bins and the fenders. The set is an accessory for the build rather than a kit: the Dragon plastic model has to be obtained separately.
The Ausf. D version was the last and the most numerous production variant of the German Sd.Kfz.251 half-track carrier. Compared with the earlier configurations it had a simplified welded hull with sloped side panels and, above all, the characteristic stowage bins built directly into the sides of the superstructure. The fenders above the track running gear were of thin sheet, which in service routinely bent and wore.
Bins with lids are a typical photo-etched fold-up: a flat sheet is bent into a box and has to hold a right angle along its whole length. Without a bending tool, use two steel rulers: press the part to the surface with one exactly on the scored line, and lift the projecting part with the other in one smooth movement. Glue the corners at first only at two spots, check that they are square against the edge of the table, and only then draw the joint tight along its whole length. Where possible leave the lids movable until they are glued, because an open bin with contents is a rewarding detail. Straighten the fenders on glass and make any bend deliberately, not by accident.
This is an add-on set, not a model. The plastic kit, glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
