About product

Voyager Model 1:35 — metal barrel 75 mm StuK 40 L/48 with a Saukopf mantlet, pattern 3

An add-on set for a plastic kit of the German StuG III Ausf.G assault gun of late production in 1:35 scale. It is not a model of the vehicle; the contents are a metal barrel part meant to be swapped for the plastic barrel from the base kit. Pattern 3 rounds out the line of variants the manufacturer offers for this subject.

The real subject

The StuG III Ausf.G was armed with a 75 mm StuK 40 gun with a barrel 48 calibers long. The cast streamlined shielding of the barrel, known as the Saukopf, was used on late vehicles alongside the older welded mantlet, so both solutions can be met even on machines from the same period.

Painting and weathering a metal part

Metal behaves differently from plastic and forgives less. Wash the part in spirit first, in order to remove residues of cutting fluid and fingerprints, and handle it from then on through a cloth or a glove. Then comes a thin base for metal — without it the paint holds only until the first touch. Spray the covering shade in several thin layers, so that the fine edges do not get filled. A metal barrel has an advantage in weathering too: scorching at the muzzle and wear can be suggested with graphite or dark metallic pigment straight onto the paint, and any excess can be wiped off without harming the plastic.

What to watch out for

The finished part is heavier than a plastic one, so cure the joint with the mantlet properly and do not handle the model for a while after gluing. Store the set so that the barrel does not lie under other parts.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building the late StuG III Ausf.G in 1:35 scale
  • Those interested in pronounced weathering of the barrel and the muzzle
  • Display-case models with a view from close up
  • More experienced modelers who can paint metal

The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, which is not part of the package. Glue, paints and other materials are not enclosed.

FAQ

Yes. Degrease it with spirit and lay on a base meant for metal surfaces, otherwise the paint holds very badly.

Yes, scorching at the muzzle and wear are suggested with graphite or dark metallic pigment. Any excess can be wiped off without damaging the plastic.

Rather for a more experienced modeler. It calls for degreasing, work with cyanoacrylate and a base for metal.

The contents of the package are stated on the box of the set.
