An injection-molded plastic kit of the four-door Bluebird sedan of the U12 generation in its later form, in the sporting SSS version with all-wheel drive and the extra equipment designated Limited. The model comes from the Japanese maker Hasegawa, whose Bluebird range holds several boxings differing in equipment and production phase. The contents of the package, the number of parts and the extent of the decal sheet are stated on the box.
The Bluebird of the U12 generation was built from the end of the 1980s and was a mid-size family sedan with front-wheel drive, which in the sporting grades also offered all-wheel drive. The SSS designation has a long tradition on the Bluebird and always belonged to the more powerful and better equipped versions. The all-wheel drive system whose name appears in the name of this version divided the drive torque between the axles according to conditions and gave a civilian sedan confidence on a slippery surface. The latter type of the U12 generation differs from earlier examples in details of the bumpers, the grille and the lights. At this time the Bluebird also appeared in rallying, where its all-wheel drive made it a capable representative of Japanese production.
A sedan with large flat surfaces is demanding on the quality of the finish; any ripple or grain will show, so do not skimp on preparing the surface and use a primer. The window frames and the center pillars call for a precise mask; on cars of this period they are usually black or in the body color. Deal with the chrome trim using foil. The interior takes a restrained setting apart of the plastics and the upholstery, and on sedans the rear of the cabin is clearly visible through the windows. Do the chassis with its all-wheel drive in darker metallic shades and a fine wash; even though it is hidden when displayed, on a model with higher ambitions it is worth it.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
