This resin set addresses a situation everyone who builds American hardware of the Second World War with a trailer runs into: an empty load bed looks unnatural, but putting it together from dozens of separate jerrycans is tedious. According to the name these are dummies intended precisely for loading on a trailer, that is a load rather than individual containers to be placed freely. The set is an accessory to a base kit; on its own it forms no vehicle.
The standardized twenty-liter jerrycan was one of the most widespread pieces of equipment: it carried fuel as well as drinking water and could be hung practically anywhere. On a model it plays three roles at once. It fills out the silhouette of the vehicle, it adds an area that can be painted differently from the body, and it gives the scene scale and a story. It is often precisely the load that decides whether a model looks like a display piece or like a vehicle in service.
Wash the castings in lukewarm water with dish soap and rid them of mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw, level the surface with a file and seat the load on the load bed dry before you reach for glue. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). In terms of color it pays not to make the jerrycans uniform: spray the base in one color, then tune the individual pieces slightly in shade, add wear on the edges, drips of fuel under the caps and finally dust in the places where the load touches the floor. Leave the upper sides lighter and keep the undersides in shadow, so that the load gains depth.
The accessory is supplied unpainted, as a resin casting to be finished. The vehicle, the trailer, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
