Green cherry leaves in 1:35 scale. For spring and summer garden scenes, fruit trees behind a wall and growth along paths.
Responsibility details are not available.
A low stone wall, an overgrown garden with a cherry tree behind it and a motorcycle patrol parked in the narrow lane. Greenery spilling over a wall is a detail that is missing in modeling more often than it should be — and yet it is exactly what separates an inhabited space from a road and gives a view its scale. Green cherry leaves are the natural choice for such a place, because fruit trees stood by every house.
A cherry has a long, pointed leaf, in summer a deep dark green with a glossy surface. That sets it apart from the matte, lighter lime and from the coarser maple, so even a small shrub behind a wall can be made legible by species. In spring the leaves are lighter and softer as well, so the shade helps to determine which month a scene captures.
Greenery over a wall: a crown is not built as a ball on a trunk. It pays to fit two or three leaning branches first, to hang one of them over the low wall and only then to sprinkle the leaves. The overhang beyond the edge should be asymmetric and longer in one place, or the garden looks like a clipped hedge.
Light in the crown: the underside of a crown is always darker. Once dry it works well to go over the upper areas with a thinned light green sprayed from above and, by contrast, to subdue the underside with a thin dark filter. Without this step a tree looks flat even if the leaves are sprinkled perfectly.
