A sheet of masking templates for painting the road wheels of the ZTZ 99B main battle tank in 1:35 scale. This is neither a kit nor a replacement part, but an accessory that separates the rubber tire band from the rim. The cutouts are cut for the wheels from the Hobby Boss kit.
A mask holds only on what it seats against, and plastic straight out of the mold is not clean. It carries a residue of release agent from molding, grease from your fingers and, after sanding, a fine dust that behaves like a layer of ball bearings between the adhesive and the surface. The simplest routine is to wash the parts in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap, rinse them and let them dry out completely, ideally overnight. For targeted degreasing of a rim that is already painted, isopropyl alcohol on a cloth works well; it leaves no marks and does no harm to the paint, unlike aggressive solvents. What to avoid: greasy cleaners, oily preparations and wiping with a paper tissue, which leaves fibers behind exactly where the mask is supposed to seal. After sanding it is enough to blow the surface off with compressed air or go over it with a soft brush. A degreased, dry surface is the single biggest difference between a sharp border and bled paint.
Clean the seams off the wheels, degrease them, lay down the primer and the rim color, let them dry, mask and spray the tire band in thin coats. Take the mask off while the paint has flashed off.
