A set of turned metal gun barrels from Tetra Model Works in 1:350 scale. This is not a ship model but a detail-up accessory that replaces the plastic barrels of the main gun mount with precisely machined metal parts. The package holds two barrels for the American dual-purpose naval gun Mark 45 Mod.4 of 5 inch (127 mm) caliber, 62 calibers in length.
The Mark 45 is a light single-barrel dual-purpose gun of the US Navy, for use against surface and air targets alike. The Mod.4 version received a lengthened barrel of 62 calibers, which raised both the range and the muzzle velocity. This gun forms the main artillery armament of modern American guided-missile destroyers and cruisers. A turned metal barrel gives the model the correct, thin and perfectly straight profile that is hard to achieve in molded plastic.
The barrel is separated from the plastic part and replaced with the metal one, which you bond with super glue (cyanoacrylate). Degrease the metal first and go over it with a good primer so that the paint holds well. Choose the shade to match the finish of the ship, usually in tones of naval gray.
This is an accessory, not a ship model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
