The set brings tiny models of the Vought F4U-4 Corsair in 1:350 scale, that is at the size matching models of aircraft carriers and large warships. In this scale the fighter has a span of just under four centimeters, so it is not a large stand-alone model of an aircraft but equipment with which a deck and a hangar are populated. The pre-painted designation means that the parts come with a color finish from the factory, so the aircraft can be completed without a full paint job.
The F4U-4 is a late production version of the Vought Corsair carrier fighter, recognizable by its four-blade propeller and its more powerful radial engine. The characteristic feature of the whole family is the inverted gull wing, which allowed a large propeller to be used while keeping the landing gear legs short. The Corsair served as a fighter and as an attack aircraft from the decks of ships and from land bases alike, and in the F4U-4 version it was among the highest-performing piston fighters of its day.
The parts are very small: nip them off with sharp nippers over a tray rather than over the floor, because a part that springs away at this size is practically unfindable. Glue with liquid cement applied on the tip of a brush, or with cyanoacrylate in a minimal amount. The factory color usually only needs tuning: a darker wash brings out the structure and breaks up the silhouette, and a flat clear coat evens the sheen across the whole group of aircraft. Pick out the propeller and the cockpit with a small accent using the finest brush you have. Glue the aircraft onto the deck at the very end, once the deck is finished and marked.
The model is supplied unassembled. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
