About product

Metal barrel 15 cm SK C/36 for destroyers, 1:350 scale (Flyhawk)

A turned metal part for models of German destroyers in 1:350 scale. The subject is the naval gun of 150 mm caliber with a barrel length of 48 calibers and the designation SK C/36. The item is listed among turned barrels and accessories, so it is an accessory with which the plastic barrel of the main armament is replaced on a finished kit. Metal brings a straight axis and a drilled muzzle, and on destroyers this is especially noticeable, because the main armament sits low above the deck and is clearly visible from the side.

The real subject

The 15 cm gun of 48 calibers was the main armament of the larger German destroyers of later construction. Compared with earlier vessels, which carried guns of smaller caliber, it was a marked increase in firepower, but one that told on the stability and the behavior of the ship in a seaway. On a model the barrel is one of the features by which the individual series of German destroyers are told apart.

Fitting it to the model

Cut the plastic barrel off as close to the shield as possible, level the surface with a file and redrill the hole with a micro drill to match the diameter of the shank. Drill exactly on the axis, because with a low-mounted barrel every deviation shows. Glue the metal part with cyanoacrylate glue or epoxy; glue for plastic does not work here. Degrease the part with alcohol before painting and apply a metal primer. Fit the barrel at the very end of the build so that it is not bent or broken off while the model is handled.

Who the part is for

  • Builders of models of German destroyers in 1:350 scale.
  • Modelers who dislike the mold seam and the blind muzzle of a plastic barrel.
  • Collectors finishing a model for a display case.
  • More experienced builders working with metal parts and a micro drill.

This is an accessory for a model, not a kit on its own. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The number of pieces is not stated here. We recommend checking it before ordering against the number of gun positions on your model.

It is the length of the barrel expressed in multiples of the internal diameter, that is roughly forty-eight times the 150 mm caliber.

With cyanoacrylate glue or two-part epoxy. Ordinary glue for plastic will not bond metal.

The particular kit is not stated here. Compare the scale and the diameter of the barrel mounting on your model before ordering.
