The set replaces the plastic barrels of both the main and the dual-purpose armament on models of British battleships of the King George V class, specifically the King George V and the Prince of Wales, in 1:400 scale. It holds ten turned 356 mm barrels and sixteen 133 mm barrels. It is not a model of a ship but a complete armament package for a kit already built or under way. The metal barrels have a clean outline, the correct taper and a hollow muzzle, so the turrets look considerably crisper after the swap.
The battleships of the King George V class were built under international treaty limits, which led to an unusual arrangement of the main armament: ten 356 mm guns split between two quadruple turrets and one twin turret. The dual-purpose armament was sixteen 133 mm guns in eight twin turrets, which served against surface and air targets alike. The King George V took part in the pursuit and sinking of the Bismarck, while the Prince of Wales took part in the same engagement and was sunk by air attack in southeast Asia in December 1941.
Cut off the plastic barrels as close to the carriage as possible and carefully drill the hole left behind to the diameter of the pin on the metal part. Degrease the metal with alcohol before gluing and roughen the mating surface slightly, then glue it with cyanoacrylate glue in small drops. In 1:400 scale the parts are very small, so tweezers, a light-colored mat and working over a box all pay off, so that a barrel does not get lost. Paint only once a base coat intended for metal is down, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface.
This is a detail accessory for your own model, not a complete kit of a ship. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package.
