1:48/1:35 46x Resin Oil Cans

46x Resin Oil Cans - resin oil cans

According to the name, this Green Stuff World set contains 46 resin castings of oil cans. It is not a kit and not a model - these are small props with which workshop and supply scenes, shelves, workbenches, vehicle beds and the corners of dioramas are filled. It is exactly such small things that give a scene plausibility: an empty table looks like a piece of plastic, a table with containers set out on it looks like a workplace. The high number of pieces is useful here, because small objects are used by the handful in a diorama. The name gives use for both 1:35 and 1:48 scale. The shapes and sizes of the individual cans are shown by the illustration on the packaging.

Working with small castings

With parts this small the main risk is loss and damage. Work over a support with a raised edge, separate the parts by cutting with a sharp knife and hold them with tweezers. Before painting, wash them in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release agent and let them dry completely. It pays to paint them while they are still on the casting block or stuck on a wooden stick - individually they are hard to hold. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). A small object looks best with a very dark wash in the recesses and fine dry-brushing of the edges; any exaggerated shading on so small an area looks coarse.

Where the set comes into its own

In workshops, garages, stores and at supply points, on shelves and workbenches, in the beds of trucks and as scattered detail in ruins. The cans can be combined with crates, drums and tools into continuous still lifes.

Who the set is for

For diorama builders and vehicle modelers who build inhabited scenes and need a larger number of small props at once.

The castings are supplied unpainted. Paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Small parts are not suitable for young children.
