A die-cut masking film for the canopy of the A-10 ground-attack aircraft for 1:48 scale. It carries shapes for the outer as well as the inner surface of the frames and matches the clear parts of the Italeri kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
When a machine for direct support of ground units was sought, the start was made with the armament and only then came the airframe. The seven-barrel GAU-8 rotary cannon takes up almost the whole length of the nose and the nose gear had to move aside. The pilot sits in a titanium armor bathtub, the engines are set high between the tail surfaces and the machine can fly even with half a wing shot away. It earned the nickname Warthog for its looks, not its abilities.
The canopy is one-piece, hinges to the rear and has a low but wide frame. A narrow strip runs around it that is easy to overlap when masking by hand, or conversely to leave as a light stripe. A die-cut shape holds the width around the whole perimeter and is the same on both sides of the model.
The set covers both sides. Inner covering is useful on this type, because the seat and the instrument panel are clearly visible through the wide canopy and a glossy frame among them would look out of place.
Wipe the clear part with a damp lint-free cloth and let it dry. Then fit the shapes and go around the edge with a toothpick. The gray shades this type flies in tend to cover unevenly, so spray rather more thin coats than one saturated one.
The leftovers of the film can be used to cover the glass of the head-up display and the covers of the navigation lights. Do not throw the offcuts away, then, until the model is finished; they save cutting shapes accurately out of tape.
