Dead Design 1:48 A5M Claude Control Surfaces is a set of replacement resin control surfaces for a model of the Japanese A5M carrier fighter in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This item is not a kit of the aircraft but an accessory. It holds castings of replacement control surfaces in resin, which will replace the parts from the box and make it possible to build a model with the surfaces deflected. The set is worked up for all the versions of the A5M, that is for the early as well as the late pattern of the A5M2b and for the A5M4.
The fabric-covered rudders and ailerons of interwar aircraft have a characteristic sag between the ribs, which an injection-molded part only rarely manages to capture. Resin castings catch this structure more finely and with sharper leading edges. The second benefit is compositional: a model with the surfaces at rest looks static, whereas a deflected rudder, trim tabs and slackened ailerons give an aircraft on the ground a naturally casual look.
First wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent, so that the remains of the release agent are removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, level the surface on abrasive paper and protect your airways while sanding resin, ideally sanding wet. Cut the original surfaces off the plastic part along the engraved line and level the edge. Glue with cyanoacrylate super glue, ideally a gel one, which gives time to fine-tune the angle of deflection. Use a primer before spraying, as resin holds paint less well without one.
This is an accessory for a model. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
