Decals for the Avro Lancaster B.I in the equipment of the Polish No. 300 Bomber Squadron of the RAF. Three machines from Faldingworth in eastern England in the last year of the war.
Responsibility details are not available.
No. 300 Bomber Squadron of the RAF came about in the summer of 1940 from Polish crews who had reached Britain after the fall of their homeland. It carried its nickname after Mazovia and from the spring of 1944 flew from the Faldingworth airfield in Lincolnshire on four-engine Lancasters. Raids on targets in the Ruhr, on transport junctions in France and on Berlin belonged to its ordinary schedule.
The sheet in 1:48 covers three machines of the years 1944 and 1945 that differ in a single letter after the squadron code. Side by side there therefore arise three differently marked bombers of the same unit, which comes in useful for a pair or a trio in a display case as well. Besides the identifying letters the sheet also brings national insignia and small warning placards, that is everything a model needs for its night coat.
A Lancaster in 1:48 offers extensive fuselage sides and the letters of the code on them are among the most conspicuous features of the whole model. It pays to lay out their spacing dry before soaking, because a shifted gap between characters is visible on a finished model from a meter away. A matte coat over the finished markings will play down the sheen of the film against the surrounding black.
The manufacturer issued two separate sheets for this type, each with a different trio of aircraft. Anyone building a Lancaster of the Polish squadron who wants to choose should compare the two sets of markings by the letters of the individual aircraft code on the sides of the fuselage.
