About product

Hasegawa 1:48 A-7D/E Corsair II — an injection-molded plastic kit

An injection-molded plastic model of the subsonic attack aircraft A-7 Corsair II in 1:48 scale from the Japanese maker Hasegawa. The box offers a choice of two configurations: the land-based A-7D of the US Air Force and the carrier-borne A-7E of the US Navy. The model is built from gray plastic complemented by clear parts for the canopy and the instrument covers. The actual package contents, that is the number of sprues and the decal options, follow the given release.

The real subject

The A-7 Corsair II was an American single-engine subsonic attack aircraft with a characteristically stubby silhouette and a large circular intake under the nose. It was created as the successor to the light A-4 Skyhawk attack aircraft and first saw combat in the Vietnam War. It was marked by a heavy load of bombs and rockets and by avionics that were advanced for its day for precision strikes. The designation D belonged to the machines of the US Air Force, while the E flew from the decks of aircraft carriers with the US Navy.

Building and painting tips

Assemble and paint the cockpit completely before gluing the fuselage together, because once it is closed there is no access to it. It pays to mask the clear canopy and the glazing, with tape or masks, and to paint them at the end. Build and paint the generous external stores, the bombs, rockets and drop tanks, separately and fit them to the pylons only after the base coat is done. Use liquid cement on the plastic, apply a primer before painting and apply the shades with an airbrush; a dark wash will pick out the engraved panel lines.

Who the model is for

  • For modelers interested in American combat aircraft of the Cold War and Vietnam.
  • For builders who want a choice between the Air Force and the Navy version from one box.
  • For collectors of external stores and colorful American schemes.
  • Suitable for intermediate modelers in the popular 1:48 scale.

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The A-7D is the land-based version of the US Air Force, the A-7E is the carrier-borne version of the US Navy operated from aircraft carriers. From this box you can build one of them.

It is a classic injection-molded kit with generous external stores and clear parts. A capable beginner can manage it, but an intermediate modeler will get more out of it.

They are not. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue, paints and other accessories have to be obtained separately.
