The wheels with uncovered hubs for the Boeing B-17 in 1:48 scale are a resin detailing accessory from the Mettalic Details brand. They replace the plastic landing gear wheels in a kit; this is not a model of the aircraft.

This is a detailing accessory, not a kit of an aircraft. The resin wheels replace the landing gear parts in a model of the Boeing B-17 bomber in 1:48 scale and represent the standard with an exposed hub, on which the openings and the inner ribbing of the hub are visible. It is precisely the exposed hub that makes the greatest demands on a mold, so a resin casting gives a markedly cleaner result here than a split injection-molded part.
The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress is an American four-engine bomber of the Second World War period. The main landing gear wheels differed from machine to machine in their hub standard – alongside closed, covered hubs, hubs with pressings and openings were used as well. The difference is clearly visible on a model with the gear down, and when a particular aircraft is built it pays to respect it.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap because of the mold release agent. Cut the casting block off with a saw and sand the surface wet. For gluing, use cyanoacrylate superglue or two-part epoxy; cement for plastic will not join resin. Paint and shade the exposed hub before you fit the wheel to the gear leg – once assembled it is hard to reach. A fine dark wash suits the recesses around the openings, and a rich gray-black shade with a light dusting suits the tire instead of a uniform black.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
