A one-piece turned metal barrel for the 88 mm KwK 43 L/71 gun for the Tiger II tank with the Porsche turret in 1:48 scale from the maker Aber. A replacement for the plastic part with no lengthwise seam.
Responsibility details are not available.
An accessory in 1:48 scale from the Polish maker Aber. According to the name it is a one-piece version, so gluing halves together and sanding a lengthwise seam, which on plastic barrels usually damages the fine details of the muzzle and the muzzle brake, both fall away. It is not a tank kit but a single precise metal part intended for the version with the early turret.
The Tiger II was a German heavy tank of the Second World War. The first examples built received a turret with a curved front, for which the name Porsche turret has taken hold among modelers; the later production turret had a flat front and a differently arranged vision port. The main armament was an 88 mm gun with a barrel 71 calibers long. The long barrel and the high muzzle velocity gave it a great range and penetration, but at the same time they increased the weight of the front of the vehicle and strained the running gear.
In 1:48 scale the barrel is small, so handle it with tweezers and work over a surface. Try the part dry in the turret mantlet, widen the opening if need be with a round file and watch that the barrel points along the centerline of the vehicle. Glue with super glue or epoxy, as cement for polystyrene will not join metal. Degrease the metal before painting and use a base coat for metal surfaces; darken the muzzle, and along the length of the barrel a fine wear is enough, as a heavy patina does not look credible on a smooth surface.
The accessory is not a model in itself. It is supplied unpainted; paints, glue and the base kit are not included in the package.
