The accessory represents a fuel dispenser in 1:48 scale - an element of the kind that stood by a workshop, at the edge of a road, in a compound and at a small filling station. It is not a model of a vehicle nor a kit; it is a separate diorama object that is added to a finished scene. It is precisely a pump that belongs among the accessories able to explain why a vehicle in a diorama is standing there and what is going on around it.
The pump by itself is not enough - action arises only in a pair with a vehicle, a hose and a figure. Place it at the edge of a paved area, slightly off the axis of the board, and leave enough room in front of it for a car. The real surroundings of a fuel point tended to be dirty - dark stains from fuel on the ground, a bruised and scuffed area around the foot, and perhaps trodden soil where the attendant walked. If you are building a scene by a workshop, it suits the pump to be completed with barrels, jerrycans or signs.
Wash the casting in lukewarm water with detergent, cut the casting blocks off and level the area. Apply a primer - on the smooth vertical surface of a pump the primer matters especially, because every unevenness shows. The body of a pump tended to be painted, so an even, rather smooth coat from an airbrush belongs here; choose a more saturated color, because it will go darker after weathering. Apply decals or painted signs onto a gloss ground and then unify them with a matte varnish. Suggest wear by the chipping technique - a thin coat of chipping fluid or very fine stippling with a sponge along the edges and in the places the attendant would touch. Put a dark wash into the seams and under the dispensing part, dust the lower part with a pigment and make the oil traces with a drop of a glossy dark shade - here less is more. Mute the metal parts, as pure chrome makes no credible impression in this scale.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
