Equipment for a model of the Messerschmitt Bf 109F in 1:48 scale. It contains film for the outer framing of the cockpit, two insignia stencils, two metal MG 17 muzzles and a pitot tube.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F version meant a turning point in aerodynamics for the Messerschmitt. Rounded wingtips, a tailplane rid of its struts and a smoother cowling made it the most elegant machine of the whole family. The armament, by contrast, slimmed down: a pair of MG 17 machine guns of 7.92 mm caliber stayed in the cowling and the main striking weapon was the engine cannon firing through the propeller hub. This form bore the weight of the fighting over the Channel and the first year of the campaign in the east.
Unlike most of the neighboring sets of this range, the film here is calculated only for the outer side of the glazing. Anyone building the cockpit closed loses nothing by it. Two stencils cover the national insignia, and the metal part brings the muzzles of both cowling machine guns and the tube of the sensor on the wing.
The MG 17 muzzles are among the smallest parts fitted to an aircraft model. The diameter comes close to a tenth of a millimeter on the real machine converted to the scale, so the work is done with tweezers and under a magnifier. The procedure is simple but will not stand haste: widen the hole in the cowling with a micro drill, try the part dry, and only then put on a drop of glue with the tip of a wire. The difference against plastic is more visible here than with large barrels, because a blind hole of such a small diameter looks on a model like an ordinary scratched groove.
