The Messerschmitt Bf 109G-10 was produced from the autumn of 1944 as an attempt to bring the diverging production into a single standard. It received the DB 605D engine and a reworked upper cowling, on which prominent bulges appeared over the breeches of the heavy MG 131 machine guns. It is those that make it a type where the eye slips to the muzzles of the barrels before anywhere else.
The set brings two different things together. The self-adhesive film covers the glazing from the outer as well as the inner side, so the framing stays sharp even when you look into the cockpit, and two masks for the national insignia complement it. The metal part brings a pair of turned MG 131 muzzles and a Pitot tube.
Against the variant with the films alone, this set adds the turned components. On the bulged cowling they show at once: injected plastic tends to have a blind muzzle and drilling it out without going off the axis is a matter of luck, whereas a metal tube has its opening from manufacture. Fitting means cutting off the plastic stub, cleaning up the seating surface and setting the part in with cyanoacrylate. Anyone building with the canopy slid back will also appreciate the second half of the films, because the cockpit is then visible through the whole opening and an unpainted frame would show through.
