A photo-etched set of landing flaps in 1:48 scale for a model of the bomber Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress. It replaces the parts from the kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Boeing B-17F Flying Fortress was an American four-engined heavy bomber which during the Second World War flew daylight raids over Europe. It relied on tight formations and on dense defensive fire from the gun positions placed throughout the fuselage. The F version could be told, among other things, by the clear nose dome of one piece without transverse framing, which improved the view for the gunner in the nose. The flaps on the trailing edge of the wing are conspicuous on an aircraft of this size and anyone who looks closely will notice them on a finished model.
The set brings photo-etched landing flaps in 1:48 scale. They replace the corresponding parts of the kit and make it possible to show a flap in a thickness that injection-molded plastic will not come close to. Whether the set is intended for showing the flaps lowered or retracted, and what further work on the wing that calls for, is stated in the instructions enclosed with the set.
Decide on the position of the flaps before you start cementing the wing together, because how you work the trailing edge depends on it. Separate the parts from the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface and sand the remnants of the tabs. Lead the bends along the marked grooves, ideally in a bending tool. Glue with super glue in minute amounts. Wash and degrease the parts before painting; on greasy metal paint does not hold.
The set belongs in the hands of modelers who have already worked with photo-etched parts and want to give the wing a thickness true to scale. Paints, glue and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
