A resin accessory set from the Czech manufacturer CMK: a finely cast cockpit for a model of the Canadair CL-13 Sabre Mk.4 fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not an aircraft kit but a replacement for the cockpit parts from the base kit, and the model it is fitted into is bought separately.
On a fighter with a sliding canopy the cockpit is the first thing every visitor to a display case looks at. Cast resin carries sharper edges, finer detail on the instrument panel and more three-dimensional side consoles than an injection mold allows. It is precisely on the Sabre, where the canopy is often built open, that the difference against the parts from the kit shows at once.
First wash the parts in lukewarm water with dish soap, so that no mold release agent is left on them, because otherwise the paint will not hold. Do not snap the casting blocks off but cut them with a modeling saw and level the area on sandpaper; do the sanding wet and with respiratory protection, because resin dust is not good to inhale. It is glued with super glue, not with cement for plastic. The dry test fit is the key step: a resin tub tends to be bulkier than the original part, so the inside of the fuselage halves usually has to be sanded out so that they can be glued without a gap. And do not forget the nose weight before you close the fuselage up.
This is an accessory, not a model of an aircraft. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
