Masking set for the Curtiss H-75A-3 in 1:48 scale. It masks the cockpit glazing from outside and inside and adds national insignia masks.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Curtiss H-75 is the export form of the American Hawk that France ordered before the war. In the A-3 version the machine received a Pratt & Whitney radial engine and six machine guns. In May and June 1940 it was flown by pilots who shot down more opponents with it than with any other French type, even though in speed it lagged behind its rivals. The remaining examples later reached northern Europe and served long after the fall of France.
A mask holds only on what you lay it on. A fingerprint, a residue of sanding dust or grease from your hands is enough for the edge not to adhere and for the paint to get into the clear part. Dust is the most treacherous, because under the film it creates a small lump and around it a microscopic gap. Before applying, therefore, rinse the glazing in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent, let it dry in the air and touch it after that only through a cloth.
A spot of paint on the glass cannot be removed by pressure, only by gradual reduction. First thin the dried layer with the tip of a wooden stick, then move on to polishing and finally level the area with gloss clear varnish. Anyone with a speck of dust under the film should always rather pull it out and apply the mask again than rely on the paint not getting through.
The set carries two masks for the cockpit cover, figured for the view from outside and from the cockpit, and one set of national insignia masks. The kit itself in 1:48 is a separate purchase.
