The SBS Model decal sheet brings markings for Finnish fighter aircraft of the post-war period for models in 1:48 scale. This is not a kit, but a standalone decal sheet with which you finish a model you already have built or under way. How many individual schemes the sheet holds and which aircraft types they belong to is given in the instructions supplied with the sheet.
After 1945 the Finnish Air Force moved to a round national insignia in blue and white, which differs from the earlier marking both in shape and in the way it was placed on the fuselage and the wings. The post-war years are interesting also because older piston-engined machines served alongside the first jet types, so you meet the same markings on very different silhouettes. For the modeler that means the chance to build a thematically linked pair or trio of models from a single sheet.
Apply the decals over a gloss surface, because on a matte varnish air stays trapped under the film and a silvered edge appears. Before soaking, cut the motif out as closely as possible so that as little carrier film as possible is left. Dip the sheet briefly in lukewarm water and let it rest for a moment; the decal then slides off on its own. Fine-tune the position in place with a damp brush, blot the excess water away with a paper tissue and add a decal softener so that the film settles into the engraved lines. With an older sheet it is worth trying one marking at the edge first, because older decals sometimes crack, and in that case spraying the sheet with a thin coat of clear varnish helps. Seal the finished work with a matte or satin varnish to suit the look of the model, and only then do the weathering.
