Masks 1:48 for the Aichi E13A Jake from the manufacturer Dead Design are self-adhesive masks cut to the shape of the long glazed cabin of this Japanese reconnaissance floatplane. They save both time and nerves when painting the frames.
Responsibility details are not available.
The cabin of the E13A floatplane is among the most extensive glazed areas built in 1:48 scale. Masking such a surface by hand with narrow tape can easily take a whole evening, and even then a straight edge is hard to keep. This set from the manufacturer Dead Design handles the whole glazing with pre-cut self-adhesive masks: you stick them on, spray the frames together with the whole aircraft and take them off once dry.
The Aichi E13A, under the Allied designation Jake, was a Japanese three-seat reconnaissance floatplane with long range. It took off from the catapults of surface ships and from the water and was used for long-range maritime reconnaissance. Its characteristic feature was precisely the elongated cabin with a large number of canopy frames and the floats on struts under the fuselage.
Degrease the glazing and let it dry. Lift the individual masks off the backing with the tip of a scalpel, place them with tweezers and press the edges down with a toothpick, so that paint does not run under them. Apply the paint in several thin coats; a heavy coat creates a step at the edge that stays visible once the mask is off. Remove the masks as soon as the paint is dry to the touch, not after it has fully cured. Before buying, please check that the set matches the kit you are building.
This is an aid for painting a plastic kit, not a model. Paints and the kit are not included in the package.
