A set of three-dimensional decals for the interior of the cockpit of the F-15A aircraft in 1:48 scale. It is an accessory for a plastic kit, not the model itself. Quinta Studio makes these sets as thin flexible elements with a color print that are transferred from the backing paper in water directly onto the parts of the cockpit and replace the hand painting of small details.
A classic decal is a flat film. Here it is released from the paper in the same way, in water, but the printed layer has genuine three-dimensional relief, so the instrument panels, side consoles and controls have physical depth and cast a shadow under side lighting. The element has no adhesive layer of its own, so it is laid on gloss varnish, on which it holds reliably; in intricate places a drop of cyanoacrylate glue helps. The result is closer to photo-etched and painted detail than to a printed imitation.
First rid the area you are going to stick to of grease and dust. Carefully level any raised engraved detail on the plastic that would keep the new part from sitting down, as otherwise the decal will ripple. Leave the cut-out part in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds, slide it off the paper with smooth-jawed tweezers and press it down from the center toward the edges with a stick or a silicone tip. A decal softener and a decal fixer have no place here, as their chemicals attack the printed resin. The elements hold best on gloss varnish (Future, Klear, Tamiya X-22), so ideally spray the cockpit and let it cure fully before gluing. Work one part at a time and keep checking that nothing gets in the way once the cockpit is closed.
This is an add-on decal set. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
