About product

Photo-Etched Fenders for the Jagdpanzer 38(t) Hetzer Tank Destroyer 1:48 — Aber

A set of photo-etched metal fenders in 1:48 scale for the German Sd.Kfz. 138/2 Jagdpanzer 38(t) tank destroyer, nicknamed the Hetzer. The set concentrates on the fenders and nothing else, that is, on the place where the difference between plastic and reality is most glaring. Etched sheet has scale thickness and a crisp edge, and it can be bent or torn so that the vehicle looks battle-worn, which on period photographs of this type is very common. It is not a vehicle kit but an accessory for a model you already have.

The real subject

The Jagdpanzer 38(t) was a light tank destroyer on the Pz.Kpfw. 38(t) chassis, armed with a 75 mm anti-tank gun in a steeply sloped low superstructure. It was built from 1944 in Czechoslovak works and was among the most numerous German tank destroyers of the final phase of the war. Its thin fenders in particular were often bent, knocked off or missing altogether in the field, so an etched replacement gives the modeler the freedom to capture a particular vehicle exactly as it looked.

Building and painting tips

Separate the photo-etched parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, not with nippers, which deform the sheet. Make the bends in a bending tool or between two razor blades, and on longer edges work slowly and evenly. Degrease the brass before gluing and bond it with super glue; on stressed joints micro-soldering also helps. Apply a primer intended for metal before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold on the etched parts and will flake off during handling. The set is intended for more advanced modelers who already have experience with photo-etched parts.

Who the set is for

  • Scale sheet thickness instead of a thick plastic part
  • They allow the fenders to be bent and damaged realistically
  • A detail accessory, not a complete vehicle kit

This is a detail accessory for your own model, not a complete vehicle kit. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package.

FAQ

This set covers the fenders only. Complete sets for the same vehicle also contain further details of the hull and superstructure.

No, it is an accessory that replaces the plastic fenders on a model you buy separately.

Yes, and it is one of the main reasons to reach for photo-etched parts. Brass can be bent and even torn.

Degrease them and apply a primer intended for metal, otherwise the paint will not hold on smooth brass.
