A set of masks for a model of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-5 in 1:48 scale. It covers the glazing on both surfaces, contains a national insignia mask and supplementary decals.

When the designers moved the engine mounting forward, they changed the proportions in the whole fuselage. The Fw 190A-5 thus offered room for further equipment and became the machine on which field conversion sets were tried out, from cannons in gondolas to racks under the fuselage. Night fighters and machines for attacks on the ground grew out of it and many of them served to the end of the war.
Inside the cockpit the pilot sits on a pressed metal shell, straps with a metal buckle at the belly run over his shoulders and lap belts descend to the floor. The Focke-Wulf also had unusually low side edges, so from the pilot's place there was a view diagonally down along the fuselage. On a model that means the space can be looked into from the side as well, not only from above.
The harness and the shell of the seat have shades of their own, and looking through the glazing the cockpit frame comes into the same view as them. If the frame stays gray in bare plastic, the eye reads it as the lightest area of the picture and draws attention away from the seat. A mask for the underside of the glazing evens that imbalance out and keeps attention where you wanted it.
One more practical note on the order of the work. It is sensible to apply the reverse layer before the glazing is seated in the fuselage, because after that you cannot reach it from inside except with tweezers through a narrow gap. Anyone who leaves that step for later usually ends up with a hand brush and with a result that spoils exactly the seat he gave the most time to.
