A decal sheet in 1:48 scale for the Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat carrier fighter, on the theme of the fighting of Marine Corps pilots over Guadalcanal.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Grumman F4F Wildcat was the main carrier fighter of the US Navy at the start of the war. It had a radial engine, a stubby fuselage and a narrow landing gear track, retracted into the fuselage by hand with a crank. The F4F-4 version brought folding wings, which meant more aircraft would fit on a deck, and six 12.7 mm machine guns in the wing. Against a more agile opponent in the Pacific the Wildcat set toughness, armor and the tactics of fighting in pairs rather than agility. The fighting for Guadalcanal in 1942 is one of its best known chapters: Marine Corps aircraft took off from there from a single airfield, often under artillery fire and with minimal support, and it was there that a number of well-known fighter names were made.
Decals in 1:48 scale for a model of the Wildcat in the F4F-4 version. The number of marking options and where they belong is described in the instructions supplied with the sheet.
The sheet holds classic wet decals. Cut the motif out close to the edge of the film, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and leave it to rest until the film releases from the paper. The surface underneath must be smooth and coated with gloss varnish. A softener will help the film settle over engraved lines and over the curved parts of the fuselage; once it has dried, go over it with a covering varnish.
For modelers of US naval aviation in 1:48 scale and for anyone interested in the fighting in the Pacific. The package holds a decal sheet; the aircraft model, paints and varnish do not belong with it, unless stated otherwise.
