About product

Grunau Baby IIb 1:48 from FLY (French markings, the second set of markings)

This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale captures the Grunau Baby IIb training glider from the manufacturer FLY. This version offers a second set of decals in French markings. It is a smaller model that builders of unpowered aircraft will appreciate.

The real subject

The Grunau Baby was a single-seat training glider that became one of the most widespread unpowered aircraft of its day. It was used above all for training and soaring, and after the war it flew in France as well. The IIb version is one of its best-known variants and it was known for its simple, robust structure and its kindly handling.

Building and painting tips

Cut the fine parts off carefully and dry-fit them to check the fit. Use liquid polystyrene cement for the plastic parts. Lay a gloss varnish over the paint before applying the decals. You will capture the wood-and-fabric subject with a restrained hint of surface texture and a matte final coat.

Who the model is for

  • For fans of prewar soaring
  • For builders of gliders in 1:48 scale
  • For collectors of unpowered aircraft
  • For anyone interested in French aircraft markings

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The Grunau Baby was a single-seat training glider, one of the most widespread unpowered aircraft of its day, used for training and soaring.

This version offers a second set of decals in French markings. Other boxings of the same glider carry different national markings and are separate products.

The model is in 1:48 scale, so it is a compact glider kit.
