A kit of the Grunau Baby IIB sailplane and of its French postwar form, the Nord 1300, in 1:48 scale, with a subtitle that refers to operations in western Europe.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Grunau Baby IIB is a German single-seat glider of the 1930s on which whole generations of glider pilots learned to fly. The structure is wooden with fabric and plywood covering, and the wing sits high above the fuselage and is braced by struts. After the Second World War the machine was also built in France under the designation Nord 1300, so it was flown in western Europe long after the war. The subtitle of the set refers to that postwar service.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, so cement and paints are needed for the build. How many color options the set offers and how the cockpit interior is handled are given in the enclosed instructions. The span of a glider is large compared with a fighter, so count on the finished model taking up more room in a display case than the scale would suggest.
The key is to set the wing on symmetrically: first only offer it up, check it by eye from the front and from above, and glue it only then; add the struts once it has dried. Fabric covering comes into its own with a matte coat and gentle highlighting of the ribs, while the wooden parts will take a glaze in a warm brown tone. Leave the rigging and the tow release until the very end so that they do not get in your way.
Paints, glue and other aids are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
