A set of photo-etched parts intended to refine the exterior of a plastic model of the Junkers Ju-88 in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of the aircraft, but an aftermarket accessory. It focuses on the elements that are supposed to be as thin as sheet metal on the real aircraft but necessarily come out coarse in injection-molded plastic: covers and doors, meshes and vent panels, radiators and their louvers, small stiffeners, hinges and steps. The manufacturer is the Ukrainian company Metallic Details. The photo-etched fret is cut for the ICM kit.
The Ju-88 was a German twin-engine bomber of the Second World War, which over the years developed into a whole family of versions — bomber, reconnaissance, night fighter and ground-attack. In design terms it was an all-metal monoplane with a glazed forward cabin, two engines in nacelles on the wing and a deeply articulated surface, which lets precisely the fine sheet-metal details stand out. A model in 1:48 scale is relatively large, so the coarseness of the parts from the base kit shows more markedly than in smaller scales.
Fit the external photo-etched parts only after the seams of the airframe have been sanded and polished, otherwise you will tear them off while working. Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, not with nippers. Make the bends on a photo-etch bending tool or between two blades. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue applied with a pin. Before painting, degrease the sheet and spray on a base color, so that the covering coat holds even on smooth metal. Try everything dry; on curved surfaces a photo-etched part has to be shaped to the form beforehand.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. It is not a complete model — the base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
