A photo-etched set in 1:48 scale for the model of the Soviet KV-1 heavy tank of 1942 with the simplified turret, intended for the Hobby Boss kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The KV-1 was a Soviet heavy tank built in several forms differing in armor, in the turret and in workshop finish. The 1942 version with the simplified turret came out of the need to speed up wartime production; the shapes on it are coarser and a number of details were dropped. A model of such a machine lives precisely off the small things on the surface of the hull and the turret, where injection-molded plastic runs into its limits.
The set holds photo-etched parts, that is, items produced by etching from thin sheet. Against plastic parts they have the correct thickness and sharp edges, so once they are fitted a model comes across more convincingly both in photographs and close up. It is intended for the Hobby Boss kit, and specifically for the form with the simplified turret; on another version of the tank some of the parts may not fit. Which parts replace plastic sections and what is cut away from the model is described in the enclosed instructions.
Work on a hard surface and separate the parts with a sharp blade, so that they do not bend. Run the bends along the etched grooves and preferably in one movement; repeated bending will crack the material. Use super glue to join them; cement for polystyrene does not work here. Degrease the parts before painting and spray them with a base coat, or the paint will not hold on the smooth surface.
Working with tweezers and small parts assumes a little practice, but a beginner will manage at least some of the parts. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
