Photo-etched accessories for the model of the Lockheed F-104J Starfighter in 1:48 scale, for refining details that are too thick in plastic.
Responsibility details are not available.
Injection-molded plastic has its limits: what is in reality thin sheet comes out on a model as a disproportionately thick plate. A photo-etched part evens this difference out, because metal holds its shape even in a thickness of a few hundredths of a millimeter and the edge stays sharp. The set is prepared for the model of the F-104J Starfighter aircraft in 1:48 scale.
The Starfighter was designed as a fast interceptor fighter, and its short straight wings have such a sharp leading edge that it was covered with guards on the ground. The F-104J version was used by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force and was built under license in Japan. A model of the aircraft tends to be slender and smooth, so fine photo-etched features show on it all the more.
It pays to work bit by bit: separate only the part you are gluing at that moment, as the small features otherwise get lost. Cut with a sharp blade against a hard surface and level the remaining tab off with a fine file. Use a straight edge or a bender for the bends and finish the bend in one movement. Glue the metal with cyanoacrylate or two-part glue, as cement for plastic does not hold on it. Before spraying, degrease the parts and apply a base coat intended for metal; only then paint and varnish.
Photo-etched parts are supplied. The model, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
