A replacement engine exhaust nozzle for a model of the single-engine F-16C fighter in 1:48 scale, in the closed position. The letters F100-PW in the name make the powerplant precise: it is a turbofan engine with an afterburner from Pratt & Whitney. That matters for a model, because aircraft with engines from two different suppliers differ from behind in the shape and the division of the nozzle, and a mix-up shows on a finished model at first glance.
The closed position means a retracted nozzle with the petals almost shut. The position of the nozzle changes on the same machine with the power setting of the engine, so it is better to check it against a photograph of the aircraft you are building. A replacement part tends to be more finely divided than the plastic part from a kit and saves the work of hiding the mold seams inside the nozzle.
The part is not of polystyrene, so it is glued with superglue, not with liquid cement for plastic. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder carefully, watching the shape of the rim as you go, because on a circular part any unevenness is easy to spot. Before painting, wash the part, degrease it and apply a base color. Nozzles are among the most worn parts of an aircraft, so it pays to lay metallic shades and faded tones on in layers here and to bring the result out with a dark wash.
For the modeler who wants the rear of the aircraft in the right standard and does not want to fiddle with building the plastic part up.
The model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
