QMT 1:48 McDonnell F-4J Phantom — wheel bay masks is a self-adhesive masking set for spraying, not a kit. It covers the area of the wheel bays before the outside of the model is sprayed.

A self-adhesive masking set from the QMT brand in 1:48 scale. It is not a model or a part of a model but an aid to painting: pre-cut shapes with which you cover the area of the wheel bays of the McDonnell F-4J Phantom II fighter before the outer surfaces are sprayed.
The outline of the Phantom wheel bays is broken up, with curves and rounded corners. Folding masking tape into a shape like that by hand is tedious, and the edge rarely comes out the same on both sides of the fuselage. A die-cut mask holds the shape the manufacturer gave it, goes on in one piece, and so the left and the right side of the model come out symmetrical. At the same time the risk disappears of carrying paint into the already finished interior of the bay while finishing by brush.
First paint the inside of the bay and let the paint dry thoroughly — on a fresh film the mask sticks too well and can tear it away when lifted off. Degrease the surface and clear it of dust before applying. Lay the mask with tweezers or with dry fingers and, once applied, press it down with a toothpick or a blunt wooden stick along the whole length of the edge. Spray in thin coats and perpendicular to the edge, not at an acute angle — otherwise the paint will creep under it. Lift the mask off slowly and at an angle, back over itself.
The package contains masks only. The model, the paints and the glue are not part of it.
