About product

The Me 262B-1a cockpit in 1:48 scale

Red Fox Studio prints the instrument panels and cockpit details in color and with a 3D texture onto decal paper. The set replaces the smooth plastic panels from the kit; it is applied by soaking and positioning, not by gluing. The set is cut for the Hobby Boss kit.

What makes this cockpit special

The B-1a version is a two-seat trainer conversion and its inside differs fundamentally from the single-seat machine. The second station was created in the space behind the pilot, so the cockpit is suddenly long and the canopy forms an elongated glazed tunnel with prominent frames. The front panel stays the pilot's and full of analog instruments; the rear station is simpler and laid out differently, because the instructor does not need the whole range of instruments. For the modeler that means two different panels, not the same one twice — and because the glazing is long, both can be seen even once the cockpit is closed. Early jet machines also have a visually simple cockpit, so every empty area inside stands out.

Two stations and the question of technique

A photo-etched set for a two-seat cockpit means a double build and on top of that all the painting of the scales. A decal supplied with a kit usually deals only with the front panel. Hand painting two panels full of gauges in 1:48 is long work in which it is hard to keep the same quality in both places. A color print with a three-dimensional structure gives legible instruments at both stations at once. The base has to be smooth, matte and degreased; settle the print with a decal softener and let it dry out before you close the cockpit.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of the two-seat trainer version in 1:48 scale
  • Modelers who do not want to paint two panels of gauges
  • Those building a long glazed cockpit who want to see inside
  • Anyone interested in early jet equipment

This is a cockpit accessory, not a kit. The kit, paints, decal softener and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The second station was created in the space behind the pilot and the cockpit is therefore markedly longer. The rear panel is simpler and laid out differently from the front pilot's panel.

No. It is a cockpit accessory — a color print of the instrument panels on decal paper. The kit has to be bought separately.

As a decal: cut it out, soak it in warm water, slide it onto a degreased and smoothly painted base, settle it with a decal softener and let it dry out.

Yes. The glazing is long and the frames do not cover everything, so both stations stay visible.
