A resin set of engine exhaust nozzles in 1:48 scale from Reskit. It is not a model in its own right but a replacement part that improves the most conspicuous area of the rear end of the aircraft. According to the name it is intended for the reconnaissance and bomber versions MiG-25RB and RBS, the upgraded interceptors MiG-25PD and PDS, and the two-seat trainer variant MiG-25PU. The number of parts and the way they attach are stated on the box.
The MiG-25 was created as a fast interceptor and a high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft. Because of the thermal loads at high speeds its airframe is largely welded from steel rather than built from light alloys, which is unusual for aircraft in this category. Power comes from two powerful turbojets with large exhaust nozzles that form a prominent feature of the rear end. The RB and RBS versions were adapted for reconnaissance and bombing from high altitude, the PD and PDS are upgraded interceptors with new equipment, and the PU is a trainer version with a modified forward fuselage.
The nozzles are fitted to the end of the fuselage, so try the parts dry first and if necessary adjust the mating surface so that the nozzle sits on the axis. Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release agent, cut off the casting blocks with a saw and sand them wet with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Painting is easier before gluing them onto the model: the inside of the nozzle is sprayed with metallic shades that shift toward darker and warmer tones at the edge according to the thermal load. Grading the shades and a light wash in the grooves will keep the metal from looking flat.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the basic kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
