A decal sheet for a model of the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M3 Model 32 fighter in 1:48 scale. The theme of the sheet is the service of this type over the Solomon Islands. Which particular machines the sheet covers and where each marking goes is given in the instructions supplied.
The A6M3 Model 32 is the version of the Japanese carrier fighter you can tell at a glance by its wingtips: instead of rounded folding tips the wing has square ends and a slightly smaller span. The Allies gave this version its own code name, Hamp, because at first they took it for a new type. Compared with the older variant the machine had a shorter range, and over the Solomon Islands, where the distance between the bases and the fighting was long, that told.
Coat the area under the decal with gloss varnish; on a matte surface white blotches would appear under the film. Cut each part out with a narrow margin, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it stand until it will slide off the backing. Settle it on the dampened area, straighten it and push the water out with a soft cloth. Over grooves and rivets a decal softener helps the decal settle, and once it has been applied do not move the part any more. Finally coat the finished area with varnish so that the edges of the film disappear.
For a modeler building a Japanese fighter in 1:48 scale who wants to give it one particular finish instead of the markings from the box.
The package holds a decal sheet. The kit, the paints, the varnish and the decal softener are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
