1:48 Mitsubishi A6M3 m. 22 Reisen Control Surfaces is a Dead Design masking set for spraying the texture of fabric covering on the control surfaces of a model in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
Unlike the sets intended for masking glazing, this item is aimed at the rudder, the ailerons and the elevator. In scale, the fabric covering of these surfaces is usually handled either by engraving or by painting. Pre-cut masks make the second route possible, that is, creating the impression of ribs and slightly slack fabric by spraying alone. The list of the sheet is given on the packaging.
Work from the bottom up. First spray the base color over the whole area and let it dry thoroughly, because masks do not adhere well to a fresh film and will tear it away as they are lifted. Then apply the masks and go over them with the shading shade. The base color slightly darkened works well, or both variants in turn, that is, first a lighter hint and, once the masks have been moved, a darker one. A contrasting color will create an unnatural stripe on a small area.
Lift the masks soon after drying and at an angle backwards, not square. Once they are off, the effect usually looks sharper than it will on the finished model. A thin clear coat and any final filter or light emphasis of the engraved lines will blend it. That is exactly why it is good not to overdo the effect: a thin layer at the start always comes out better than an attempt to correct too strong a contrast.
The set is an accessory for painting a model. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
