This resin set from Reskit is intended for models of the North American T-28 Trojan trainer in the C and D versions built as machines operated from land airfields. A naval variant of the wheels also exists within the range, so check which machine you are building when choosing. The set replaces the plastic wheels from the box and deals with the details on which injection-molded plastic usually loses out, that is the fine tread pattern and the three-dimensional rendering of the hub.
The Trojan was a piston trainer with a radial engine, a tandem cockpit and nosewheel landing gear, an arrangement that prepared students for operating the jets of the day. The T-28C version served for training, while the T-28D was created as an armed form for light combat duties. Machines operated from land bases differed from the carrier ones in their equipment and, among other things, in the type of wheels used, which is exactly the difference this item addresses.
Separate the castings from the casting block with a thin saw and level the contact surface so that the wheel sits square to the axle. A wheel glued on at an angle shows on a finished model more than any tread detail. Before painting, wash the set in lukewarm soapy water, let it dry and lay down a primer. Resin is bonded with cyanoacrylate, applied with a wooden stick or a piece of wire in small drops. Choose a color toward gray rather than black, because a pure black tire in 1:48 scale reads as unnaturally dark. Add the dust and build-up from the runway with dry pigment right at the end.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
