The O-2A Skymaster is an American twin-engined observation aircraft derived from a civil machine. It has both piston engines on the axis of the fuselage, one tractor at the front and the other pusher at the rear, and it carries the tail surfaces on a pair of booms. The US Air Force used it to direct air support from low level, where a good view from the cabin and calm behavior of the machine at slow speed are valued. The glazing of the cabin is exactly the most conspicuous area on a model, and therefore the most sensitive to how the frames come out.
The frames of glazing are hard to draw by hand with a brush, because the paint spreads and the edge stays frayed. Pre-cut masks of kabuki paper get around that work: the paper takes a slight curve, holds over the whole area and leaves no rim on the paintwork once removed. The designation BASIC tells the extent apart within a range in which sets of a different extent are available too, under the designations EXPERT or ADVANCED.
Wash and degrease the transparencies first, so that the mask holds. Stick the pieces on according to the manufacturer's instructions before spraying and press the edges down with a toothpick or a wooden stick, or paint will get under them. Spray thin coats and let them set, because a heavy deposit creeps under the edge more easily. Take the masks off with tweezers shortly after the paint has dried, not weeks later. The set is cut for one particular kit, so check with the maker which model in 1:48 scale it is meant for.
A masking set is supplied. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
