Decals 1:48 for the P-47D Thunderbolt fighter-bomber with the nose name Fran of the 395th Squadron of the 368th Group.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Republic P-47D was the heaviest single-engine fighter of the Second World War, and in Europe the US Army Air Forces made it above all a destroyer of ground targets. The eight-ton airframe took hits that a lighter type would not have got home from, and eight large-caliber machine guns in the wing had enough power for a truck column and for a locomotive alike.
The subject of this printing is the machine with the serial number 44-20249 of the 395th Fighter Squadron, which came under the 368th Fighter Group of the American Ninth Air Force. The unit flew from forward field airfields and its main work was supporting the advancing ground forces. On the nose the aircraft had the girl's name Fran written. The pilot's choice was no accident: he married the girl after the war, in 1947. American aircraft of that time carried hundreds of similar stories, and it is exactly those that make building a model something more than putting plastic together.
On a single-color metal surface every excess edge of carrier film stands out. Guide the scissors close to the drawing, therefore, and separate the letters individually so that they can be fine-tuned one by one. Then seal the dried printing with a thin layer of clear coat so that the transition between the film and the clear coat disappears.
