Self-adhesive masks in 1:48 for the teardrop glazing of the P-51D Mustang fighter. The description from the manufacturer states cover of the glass from outside and from inside and one set of national insignia masks.
Responsibility details are not available.
The D version is the form almost everyone calls to mind under the name Mustang. A lowered fuselage spine and a sliding one-piece canopy gave the pilot an all-round view, the armament grew to six heavy machine guns and a fuel reserve in a fuselage tank extended the range. That change was paid for, though: cutting the rear down made the side area disappear and the aircraft became unstable in yaw, mainly with a full fuselage tank. The solution was an extended dorsal fin ahead of the vertical tail surface, which on later batches was fitted in production and on older ones afterwards.
Even though the outlines on the sheet are die-cut, a knife still comes in useful: for lifting a piece, for cutting a mask to finish for an atypical shape and for removing surplus at an edge. Sharpness decides. A blunt blade does not cut vinyl but pushes and tears it, so the edge of the mask comes out frayed and the paint draws into the tears. A blade is therefore changed after a few cuts, not after a few months, and it cuts with a light draw on a mat, not with pressure from above.
A teardrop canopy has a frame only at the front and the rear, so masking is faster here than on the framed versions and most of the time goes on seating the front arch precisely. Anyone who lays out the order of the work in advance leaves the glazing until after the camouflage is sprayed and saves fixing reflections on the glass.
