Percival Proctor Mk.III in 1:48 scale from Dora Wings — a plastic kit of the British communications aircraft in the form in which it served civil operators after the war.
Responsibility details are not available.
A kit of the elegant British low-wing monoplane Percival Proctor Mk.III in quarter scale, this time in an edition devoted to civil operation. The larger 1:48 scale lets the shapes of the glazed cabin and the detail of the airframe stand out, and the finished model is an impressive yet still conveniently sized exhibit. Dora Wings is one of the smaller manufacturers that pick overlooked subjects, and the Proctor is a textbook example.
The Proctor grew out of the successful Vega Gull touring aircraft by the designer Edgar Percival. During the Second World War the Royal Air Force used it for communications flights and as a flying classroom; the Mk.III version was reserved mainly for training radio operators. The power came from a de Havilland Gipsy Queen engine. After 1945 the military sold off the surplus machines and the Proctors began a second career with flying clubs, small operators and private owners — in colorful civil liveries they flew for many more years.
A short-run kit will appreciate patience: dry-fit the parts, sand the contact faces and think the cabin interior through before closing the fuselage, because it will be clearly visible through the glazing. Civil finishes tended to be glossy — a carefully smoothed base and a gloss coat under the decals pay off.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
