A photo-etched metal set in 1:48 scale from Aber representing pierced steel planks, known by the abbreviation PSP. Genuinely cut-through holes and the joints between the individual planks suggested give the surface a depth that neither a printed mat nor a plastic sheet can offer. The set serves as the base of a diorama or of a display base under a model; it is not a model of an airplane or a vehicle.
Pierced steel planks were used in the Second World War to firm up field airstrips, landing areas, roads and vehicle parks quickly. The individual planks hooked into one another and within a few days a load-bearing surface could be laid even over churned-up ground. The solution proved itself so well that it was used long after the war, and in modeling it is a popular base under aircraft and armor alike.
Nip the parts from the fret and clean them up, and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue onto a firm base so that the surface stays flat. Degrease the metal before painting and spray it with a base coat. Weathering is what helps the result most: a dark wash into the holes, metal rubs where the traffic ran, and dust and mud from pigments along the edges of the area.
An accessory for building dioramas. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
