About product

The PZL P.11c in 1:48 scale from Mirage Hobby

This is an injected plastic kit of the Polish PZL P.11c fighter monoplane in 1:48 scale. According to the name the box is built on a conceptual, that is a design, camouflage scheme of the Polish Air Force: on a finish derived from the considerations and studies of the period, not on a commonly published production execution. The manufacturer is the Polish firm Mirage Hobby, which has long specialized in Polish interwar aviation. The contents of the box, the number of parts and the markings offered are stated in the printing on the box.

The real subject

The PZL P.11c was an all-metal high-wing fighter monoplane with the characteristic gull wing of the so-called Polish type, which opened the pilot's view obliquely upward. It was powered by a Bristol Mercury radial engine built in Poland under license, the landing gear stayed fixed and the cockpit open. In the first half of the 1930s it was a modern design with a first-class view from the cockpit; by the end of the decade a layout with fixed landing gear and an open cockpit was already falling behind the fast all-metal low-wing monoplanes. In 1939 the P.11c was numerically the strongest type of the Polish fighter force.

Building and painting tips

Cut the parts from the sprues with nippers and sand the sprue nubs down, so that the surfaces seat cleanly. Finish and paint the interior, the seat and the instrument panel before you close the fuselage. Try the struts of the wing and of the fixed landing gear dry first, then glue them with a thin cement for plastic applied into the joint with a fine brush. Before painting, apply a thin filler primer, which reveals scratches and imperfect joints. Spray the camouflage with an airbrush in thin coats, go over the areas under the decals with a gloss clear coat and finally unify the finished model with a matte one.

Who the model is for

  • Modelers with an interest in the Polish Air Force of the 1930s
  • Builders of interwar fighters in 1:48 scale
  • Collectors who are looking for an untypical camouflage execution of a well-known type
  • The moderately advanced: the struts, the fixed landing gear and the open cockpit call for patience

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. This is a classic kit of injected plastic which you assemble and paint yourself. Glue and paints are not included in the package.

It is a design finish, not a commonly published production one. The box is therefore interesting above all for modelers who want to build a well-known type in a less usual finish.

The number of parts and the number of markings offered are given by the contents printed on the box.

Rather for the moderately advanced. The model has a strut-braced wing and fixed landing gear, where an accurate fit and patience in gluing thin parts are needed.
