A die-cut self-adhesive masking set for spraying British code letters in 1:48 scale from the Czech maker Armycast. The letters correspond to a real height of 24 inches, that is 12.7 mm on the model, as the maker itself states. The mask is stuck on a dry finish, oversprayed with the color of the letters, and once it is lifted off a sharp, perfectly flat lettering remains, without the carrier film a decal leaves behind.
Code letters were painted on the sides of the fuselage next to the roundel. The pair belonged to the squadron, while the separate letter marked the individual aircraft within the unit. A height of twenty-four inches was among the most common dimensions used during the Second World War and it appears on a large part of period photographs of British fighter and bomber machines. That is precisely why this variant is a universal basis for most models being built.
The base has to be smooth, degreased and perfectly dry. Lay the letters out dry first, check the spacing and the distance from the roundel, and only then press the film down. Spray thin coats at right angles to the surface, not at an angle under the edge. Stick the inner islands of the letters, such as the eyes in B, D or O, on separately. Lift the film off while the finish is still fresh.
It is a masking accessory, not a model. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
