The Russian R-73 AA-11 Archer missile in 1:48 scale — a resin replica of the famous agile short-range air-to-air missile for models of Soviet fighters, from Plus Model.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from the Czech manufacturer Plus Model contains a resin replica of the R-73 air-to-air guided missile in 1:48 scale. It is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory of external armament with which you give a model of a fighter an authentic combat look.
The R-73, AA-11 Archer in the NATO reporting system, is among the most famous short-range missiles of all. It entered the armament of the Soviet Air Force in the 1980s and shocked Western experts with its agility; the combination of an infrared seeker head with a wide off-boresight angle, aerodynamic control surfaces and thrust vectoring allowed it to engage targets far off the axis of flight of the carrier. Combined with a helmet-mounted sight for the pilot, it gave the MiG-29 and Su-27 fighters a marked advantage in a turning fight.
Before putting the parts together, wash the castings free of the mold release agent and remove the casting blocks carefully; work with feeling around the slender control surfaces, as resin is more brittle than plastic. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue. Choose the finish according to period photographs: a light base body is livened up by darker details of the seeker head and the nozzle and by a fine wash in the parting lines.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
