An Armycast masking set for 1:48 scale, intended for spraying the Soviet star insignia of the Kremlin type with a white or yellow edging. The set belongs to a range that the manufacturer divides into an early, a mid and a late variant. It is neither a model nor decals — the masks serve to make the marking come about in paint.
The Kremlin type of star is treated in modeling practice as a separate variant of the insignia with different proportions of the points. The outlined pattern, that is, a star traced with a light edge, improved the legibility of the marking on a dark finish. The mid variant differs from the early and late ones in its design, but check the particular dimensions against the documentation for the machine you are building.
Get both parts of the sheet to work for you. Besides the mask of the insignia itself, the cut also produces a negative, that is, the surrounding material with the shape cut out of it, which can be used to mask the opposite area or as a repair when the first attempt does not come off. Do not throw the backing sheet away as soon as the mask is applied — there tend to be leftover pieces on it that come in useful, and it also serves as a surface from which a mask can easily be lifted. Work with smooth-jawed tweezers and lift the mask with the tip of a scalpel; do not touch the adhesive side with your fingers, as grease from the skin reduces the tack considerably.
